This cookie cutter is beautiful and intricate. I bought it to add to my cookie cutter collection for our annual cookie decorating party, but because it is so detailed and intricate it is really hard to cut out and maintain shape and all the details. This is not a good cookie cutter for quick easy cookies - it will try your patience - but if you have time and patience it makes beautiful cookies.

I like to make a variety of snowflake cookies in the winter months, so I have a collection of copper snowflake cookie cutters in different shapes. The Regal Snowflake from Old River Road is one of my favorites. The design holds up well to baking, and it is lovely decorated with icing in swirls or arabesques. I use an icing made of powdered sugar, powdered egg whites, and water, colored light blue and white, coat the cookie with a base layer, then pipe on some details in the contrasting color when the base has set. Beautiful and delicious. The great thing about snowflakes is that they are all supposed to be unique, so the more different designs, the merrier. You don' t have to be embarrassed about having a dozen -ahem- different snowflake cookie cutters ;-)The Regal Snowflake is a large cookie cutter at 6 1/2 inches in diameter. It probably needs to be this large to accommodate the intricate design. It makes a one-per-person size cookie. I can't imagine eating more than one of these in a sitting. You need to use a dough that won't spread or puff much in order to retain the design, but the cookies are not impossibly fragile. The only problem I have with breakage is if I accidentally hit one of the tips of the snowflake from the wrong angle with my spatula while removing the cookies from the cookie sheet. If I use a wide spatula and don't come at the cookie from the wrong direction, I'm fine.I have copper snowflake cookie cutters from three different manufacturers, including Old River Road and Boston Mountain Copper Company. Those from Old River Road are the most intricate and the most consistently symmetrical and without flaw. Some of them are quite attractive in themselves and would make a nice holiday wall display, if you like that sort of thing. The cutters are 1 inch deep, and you can hang them by a nail. Snowflakes are a such a versatile motif. The abstract-yet-symmetrical nature of the design inspires creative decorating, and it appeals to everyone, regardless of what winter holidays they may or may not celebrate.

Old Red River is known for producing good quality, sturdy Copper cookie cutters. The Regal Snowflake is a large cookie cutter,measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/4." It has good weight to it and is definitely not flimsy. This is 100% Copper and not copper plated. This is a BEAUTIFUL design!!! The cookie dough should NOT have any Baking Powder in the recipe for this to retain its shape. Also, it is easiest to roll CHILLED cookie dough on parchment paper(size of cookie sheet), cut out dough & remove scraps. Place parchment with cut out shapes on cookie sheet and refrigerate 10-15 min. before baking.I prefer copper cookie cutters to tin. Eventhough the copper cutters are priced higher than tin, they will not rust, do not bend easily, and wash up beautifully. These cookie cutters will last much longer than the tin ones. If they should tarnish, Barkeepers Friend is a good cleaner for easily removing this. I do not know how often these tarnish.I have 75+ Copper Cookie Cutters that I have owned for 6 years and have not had to remove tarnish from any of these!!
